Sycamore families, we need YOU! The LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan) survey is now live, and we want to hear from each family before it closes on February 7.
In true Sycamore fashion, we've got a plan to make taking the survey easy and fun! Simply join us this Wednesday during morning drop-off at the school's front entrance. We'll have your morning coffee ready, so you can pause to complete the school survey! It's easy to take on your cell phone, and it takes just a few minutes to add your thoughts. We'll have school iPads available, too, for anyone who needs a device. If you've already taken the survey, join our coffee break anyway! We hope to see you there.
Why is it so important to take this survey?
This survey directly shapes how the district allocates funding for programs, resources, and opportunities that impact our students’ learning environment. This is your chance to share your thoughts - and it’s anonymous! Please take a moment to complete this crucial survey!
NEW Bonus: Complete the LCAP survey and be entered to win $100 in Sycamore credit. This $100 credit can be used on Cheddar Up order forms and is good for new gear, event tickets, and more! Just email us at sycamoregovernance@gmail.com to let us know you’ve done your part, and you’ll be entered in the drawing. The winner will be announced on February 8th.
Complete the SURVEY HERE, use the QR code, check your email from CUSD, find it through the link in our Instagram bio, or JOIN US for COFFEE and the SURVEY on Wednesday!
Compost Available!
We have a nice pile of finished compost that we are using in our classroom gardens, but families can also take some for their home gardens. Please contact Sycamore sustainability coordinator Elise Ferree if interested (eferree@natsci.claremont.edu).
TK - Kindergarten Registration Begins March 1
Believe it or not, enrollment for Sycamore's 2025-2026 TK and Kindergarten classes begins March 1. That's just around the corner, and we want to get the word out.
See the CUSD website to learn more about the TK-K opportunities at Sycamore and schools across CUSD, and encourage other families to do the same!
School Accountability Report Card
California public schools annually provide a School Accountability Report Card (SARC), so the community is able to review and compare schools for aspects of student achievement, environment, resources and demographics. A Parent's Guide to the SARC, a description of the requirements and information contained in the School Accountability Report Card, is available on the California Department of Education website.
Claremont's School Accountability Report Cards (SARCs) school year have been approved by CUSD’s Board of Education and are now accessible on school and district websites. These reflect the information and data from the 2023-2024 school year. Sycamore's SARC can be found here. If you would like a hard copy of our School Accountability Report card, please request that in the school office.

As we navigate raising kids in the digital age, many of us are feeling anxious about the impact of smartphones and social media on our children's well-being. Recent studies have highlighted the potential negative effects on mental health, academic performance, and social development.
We are a couple of concerned parents reaching out to gauge interest in forming a support community focused on delaying providing our children with smart phones, as well as discussing ways to manage or limit use if your child already has one. The hope is that by working together, we can create a healthier environment for our children that prioritizes real-world interactions.
If you're interested in joining this community, please fill out the short survey by clicking on the link below. Please also feel free to reach us directly at mellamochiko@yahoo.com and emilyorr18@gmail.com

Want to be part of the TEAM?
We're building a team of volunteers to support our upper grade TRACK TEAM! Starting in February, volunteers will join teachers during the lunch recess to prepare students for the Vista Del Valle Annual Track Meet. We start by helping students learn which events are best matched to their skill and interest. Then, we provide practice and coaching specific to short and long-distance running, relay races, standing broad jump, and the softball throw. If you're curious or interested, and you periodically have time to join us during lunch, please contact Lydia Hernandez, lhernandez@cusd.claremont.edu.
Registration for next year's BLAST: Before and After-School Care
On Friday afternoon, CUSD families received an email about registration for next year's BLAST/ASES/ELOP before and after-school program. Registration for the 2025-2026 school year will be opening in March for elementary school sites, and because this is a popular program with limited enrollment, we want all families to be aware of our school's registration window:

Registration will reopen on May 5th for all school sites.
Available BLAST contracts for the 2025-2026 school year are:
Morning care only
5 day contract AM and PM care
3 day contract AM and PM care
The ELOP Program at each of our elementary school sites and the ASES Program at Vista del Valle offer a 5 day contract for after school care only. Fees for the 2025-2026 school year can be found on the CUSD website or by viewing the Monthly Tuition Schedule.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps athletics department’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Committee and Women Empowerment in Sports Club in conjunction with the women’s basketball program are excited to announce our National Girls and Women in Sports Day Event on Wednesday, February 5th.
This FREE event will allow registrants to learn the basics of different sports, the history of women in sports and enjoy a CMS Women’s Basketball game!
Sycamore has a long history of using indoor and outdoor spaces for learning. Our students enjoy being outside when working on group projects, observing nature, or getting some quiet time.
The current project will add shade in the east courtyard. Two, 20' by 20', oversized umbrellas will be added over the coming weeks. These shades will be useful to everyone, especially the classes that flank this area. Stay tuned for updates.
