Greetings Sumner Danbury Families,
What a fantastic week we’ve had! Our Red Ribbon Week celebrations were truly a highlight, and it was so much fun to see the creativity and excitement from students during spirit week. We also had a successful Great Shake Out disaster drill that was reschedule from the week before due to weather, and we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Elsasser, Board Member Kathryn Dunn, and Assistant Superintendent Kevin Ward for a tour of our school. It was a great opportunity to showcase all the wonderful things happening here! And lastly, we had a fantastic annual Harvest Festival on Friday evening with so many families who came out to enjoy the festivities. Thank you to our Parent Faculty Association (PFA) for creating such a fun event for our school community, and a special shout out to parent and Harvest Festival chairperson, Dedra Sumaylo, for organizing the event. Thank you! We hope everyone will enjoy the photos of the week's events featured below.
This coming week at Sumner Danbury, there are several important events to note. First, our OI and SDC classes will take a field trip to the Selpa Art Festival on Monday, and our Make-up Picture Day has been rescheduled to November 15. Next, if you ordered from our fundraiser, "Ring in the Holidays," order pick up is this Wednesday at 1:00 PM in our MPR. You can pick up from the Sumner parking lot MPR door at the north end for quick, easy access. Please see below for more details. And last, we are excited to round out October with a Costume Parade on Wednesday, October 31. All students may wear costumes to school if they wish. Students in PreK, TK, and Kindergarten will begin their parade at the Kindergarten playground and then loop around the 300 Quad building. Students in grades 1-6, staff, and PreK-K families may line the parade route to view and cheer. Please follow the Costume Rules and see below for more details.
Costume Parade - Wednesday, October 31
Pre K - Kindergarten costume parade will take place on Thursday, October 31 at the start of the day for parents and guardians in the Kindergarten playground area.
Grades 1-6 may wear a costume to class (but will not parade).
Costumes Rules:
Costumes must be school appropriate and cannot promote violence (no blood/gore). Please take into consideration our youngest students and save any scary costumes for evening activities.
Students may wear masks that do not block the student’s vision and minimal face make-up that is easily removed (i.e., with a paper towel). Masks and make up will be removed once instruction in the classroom begins.
Costumes should be worn over regular school clothes so costumes can be easily removed if desired. Otherwise, the costume will be worn all day, as there will be no changing of clothes in the bathrooms.
School appropriate shoes must be worn at all times. (Closed toes and backs. No sandals or high heels.)
Any “accessories” must be able to fit in your child’s backpack.
No toy weapons of ANY kind are allowed at school.
Please do not bring any “precious” or valuable items, as the school will not be responsible for any lost or unaccounted for items.
Students who have PE on Thursday will need to wear clothing appropriate for PE.
Please reach out to the school office if you have any questions.
