Welcome to Oakmont!

The 24-25 School Year is Here!

Greetings!

Welcome to the new school year! I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits as we gear up for an exciting new school year! We are excited to embark on this journey of learning and growth together. Our dedicated team of teachers and staff is committed to providing a nurturing and supportive environment where every student can thrive. We look forward to partnering with you to make this year a memorable and successful one for all our students.

We are only about two weeks away from the start of the school year, and each day adds a new level of anticipation for all of us. This is just a short newsletter to say hello and to share a bit of information. This begins our weekly newsletters, so more information will be coming out in the next couple of weeks.

Every Friday at 5:00 pm during the school year, I will email and/or text you the link to the Oakmont Update (the same way you received this newsletter). This is where you will get a review of the week, any upcoming events, and get other important updates. Please be sure to read the newsletter each week as information is updated with each publication.

We are looking for a new PFA Secretary! Please fill out the form below if you are interested in joining the PFA and playing an integral part at Oakmont! 24-25 PFA Secretary Interest Form.

Please take a minute and join our PFA's Facebook group and check them out on Instagram. It is a private group for Oakmont families where you can interact with other families, ask questions, and get information about PFA hosted activities.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Rodriguez

FAQ

What supplies do my child need?

  • Supply lists will be shared in this Friday's newsletter. If you want to get a head start, here are some basic supplies you can purchase. Please note that not all grade levels will be recommending the following supplies or they may want specific colors of certain supplies (like folders or spiral notebooks).

    • Backpack

    • Reusable water bottle

    • Pencils (Ticonderoga are the best)

    • Crayons (Crayola)

    • Markers

    • Colored Pencils

    • Highlighters

    • Spiral notebooks

    • Dividers

    • Pocket folders

    • All teachers appreciate classroom donations of tissue boxes and disinfectant wipes

When will I find out who my child's teacher is?

  • You will be able to view your child's assigned teacher on Parent Connect on August 23rd after 5:00pm. All placements are final. You should have received an email with your Parent Connect login information. We put a great deal of effort to create classes that will ensure students, teachers, and families have a successful year. This is a particular challenge at a very small school. For this reason, we are not able to honor requests for class changes or for placement with any particular teacher or class.

What will arrival/drop-off look like? (maps coming soon)

  • Students may arrive on campus at 7:55 am where they will wait by the stage until 8:00 am or go eat their breakfast. Beginning at 8:00 am, students will go to their classrooms. On the first day of school, families are welcome (but not required) to walk their child to class. To help make it a successful transition, talk to your child ahead of time and decide on a special good-bye routine. For example: First, we'll give each other a hug and will say 'I love you.' Then, we'll give each other a high five and say 'Have a great day!' Having a predictable routine is reassuring and makes kids feel special. When the tardy bell rings at 8:10, all parents will need to head off campus. For more tips on a successful first day, check out the article "Start School with a Smile."

  • Beginning on the second day and through the rest of the year, students will be dropped off in front of the school and walk to class on their own. Teachers and classroom aides will be waiting for TK and Kindergarten students at both entrances to welcome them and help them get to their classrooms.

  • School begins at 8:10. Students not in their classrooms when the bell rings at 8:10 will be marked tardy.

What will dismissal/pick-up look like? (maps coming soon)

  • TK students will be picked up at the gate next to room 5 at 11:45 each day.

  • Kindergarten students will be picked up next to room 5 at their dismissal time (11:45 at the start of the year).

  • 1st-6th grade students will be picked up in front of the school at 2:35. Caregivers may pick up in the drive-through lane or meet their students at the top of the stairs on the east or west side of the pick-up area. Parents will not be allowed to wait along the sidewalk where students will be entering their cars. It is a narrow sidewalk, and we need to keep it open for pedestrians.

Will my child receive an iPad?

  • Yes. All students will be assigned an iPad and charger. Each teacher will notify parents if iPads will be left at school or taken back and forth from home to school.

Will I be responsible for the iPad if any damages occur while in my possession?

  • If an iPad is returned broken or no longer functioning, you will be responsible for the cost of the replacement device. Parents will be required to fill out a Device Check-Out form accepting financial responsibility for any lost or stolen CUSD property. An insurance policy covering any possible damage will be available to you if you choose to purchase it.
