Dear CHS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,
It is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating news of the passing of one of our Claremont High School students over the weekend. He was a valued member of our school community, and his loss is deeply felt by students, staff, and all who knew him.
Yesterday, our mental health team informed staff members of this heartbreaking news. Today, CHS counselors visited his classes to share the news with his classmates and to offer support to anyone affected by his passing. The Claremont Police Department (CPD) also kindly provided their emotional support dog, which was available to comfort both students and staff.
We recognize that each member of our community may process this news differently. We have counseling services available for any student or staff member who needs support during this difficult time. Please encourage your student to reach out to our counseling team if they need someone to talk to.
As we grieve together, we ask for your support in fostering kindness and understanding among our students. Please take some time to check in with your child, as they may have questions or emotions they need help navigating.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with our student’s family and loved ones. We will continue to stand together as a school community, offering support and compassion to those who need it most.
If you have any concerns or would like resources to support your child at home, please contact our counseling office or reach out to Care Solace for one-on-one mental health support.
Thank you for your understanding and for being part of our strong, caring CHS community.
Sincerely,
James Mitchell, Ph.D.
Principal, Claremont High School
