Dismissal

TK and K Families:

Please park and walk to the designated pick-up areas. Staff will be there to dismiss your child to you. Do not park inside the staff parking lot.

1st-6th Grade:

If you choose to park and walk, there are two areas where parents and caregivers can wait and meet their children. Please do not enter campus while waiting for your child.

  • Along the steps at the front of the school

  • On the sidewalk along the gate near the corner of Mills Avenue and Chaparral Drive.

If you choose to use the drive-through lane, please follow the safety guidelines above. Students will be waiting in the grassy area at the front of the school only. For the safety of all students and pedestrians, we ask that students enter their cars only along the designed drive-through lane on the campus side of Chaparral Drive. For their safety, students will not be permitted to cross the street on Chaparral Drive to meet their parent or caregiver unless the appropriate crosswalks are used. For their safety, students will not be allowed to get into a car that's stopped next to the drive-through lane (i.e. double parked).

3rd-6th grade students may choose to walk through the turf to be picked up along Chaparral Park. Students who choose to do so should head directly to the turf.

Park and Walk

Parking is available along Mills Avenue and along any of the residential streets.

We ask that you do NOT park in the staff parking lot or along the campus side of Chaparral Drive.

If parking in any of the residential streets, use all sidewalks and crosswalks and be mindful of our neighbors. Please be courteous and do not block their driveways, even partially.

We ask that you do not make a U-turn on Chaparral Drive in order to keep the traffic flowing smoothly.

Drive-Through Lane

Chaparral Drive, on the campus side, is a drive-through lane. We ask that all drivers follow these safety guidelines:

  1. Once you enter the drive-through lane, you must stay in the lane until the exit. Please do not cut in or out of the lane unless directed to do so by a staff member.

  2. Pull up to the very front of the drive-through lane, as space permits. Staff will move the traffic as quickly as possible.

  3. Drive slowly and carefully, watching for all pedestrians.

  4. Load and unload your car as quickly as possible. Use the passenger's side of the vehicle to pick up and drop off. This helps to keep children safe and to keep the traffic moving.

  5. Drivers should not get out of their car while in the drive-through lane.

  6. Please avoid making U-turns on Chaparral Drive.

  7. When finished dropping off or picking up your child, please continue to drive forward and follow the road onto Longwood Avenue. Turning left onto Rockford Drive will lead drivers back to Mills Avenue.

Attendance Counts

Prompt and regular attendance is a key component to your child’s success in school. Students need to attend school to achieve in school. When students are not in school, they fall behind. Chronic absenteeism impacts all students—no matter their age. Students that miss just two days a month for any reason are more likely to not read at grade level, and more likely to not graduate.

When excessive absences (excused and unexcused) or tardies occur, the school district’s automated system notifies parents with a letter expressing concern. The school site makes every effort to work with families to solve attendance problems. However, if poor attendance continues, the matter may be referred to the School Attendance and Review Board of Los Angeles County (SARB).

Parents can help promote good attendance by scheduling home activities, appointments, trips, and family vacations outside of regular school days and times.

When your child is absent

As soon as you know your child will be absent from school, please call the office to speak to the office directly, call the Attendance Hotline, or email the Attendance Clerk. You can call this number or email any time; it is available 24 hours.

Attendance Hotline: (909) 398-0304

Attendance Email: vranger@cusd.claremont.edu

If you do not call, please expect a call from the office that day. As you can imagine, this is a time-consuming job, so your help in calling the office is greatly appreciated.

Contracts - Independent Study

If it becomes necessary for your child to be absent from school for three or more days in a row, please let your child’s teacher know at least five days in advance, if possible. Classroom work will be sent with your child and he/she is expected to complete this work during the contract dates. When the work is completed, it must be returned to the school immediately. The funding credit collected from the state is based on the percentage of the work completed by the student.
